It is quiet a common opinion that geeks are those who are shy and silent in front of people. But I think that is just first level of geek. For those who have ambition in computer science or other scientific areas, writing is a powerful weapon if they wield it properly.
First of all, for programming, clear and understandable comments are steady bridges between you and other programmers. I do not want to cooperate with those who can not write their comments clearly despite how skillful they are.
Secondly, I think that an excellent coder should keep a journal, not only for debugging but also for keeping notes of great ideas. Those ideas which sparkled in your head for only a second may make your codes much more efficient later.
Last but not the least. Employers prefers coders who can write because this is mainly how they communicate with others.
In conclusion, cultivating a good skill of writing is surprisingly benefitial these days even for geeks.
